The House Shrew or Asian House Shrew, is a small insectivorous mammal commonly found around human habitations. It has a pointed snout, small eyes, coarse greyish-brown fur, and a tail shorter than its body. Adults measure about 10–15 cm in length.

This species is primarily nocturnal, highly active, and has a distinctive strong musky odor, which often gives away its presence. The species feeds on insects, spiders, cockroaches, small lizards, and sometimes food scraps. 

The House Shrew is adapted to urban, rural, and agricultural landscapes and is often seen scurrying inside houses and gardens.
